A student from Master of Arts in Library and Information Science, Miss Thanaphan Thananta and her thesis’ advisor, Songphan Choemprayong, Ph.D., received Best Paper Award from introducing an academic report on “Search Effectiveness and Efficiency of Facet-Based Online Catalog: A Crossover Study of Novice Users” at the 16th International Conference on Asia-Pacific Digital Libraries (ICADL) at Chiang Mai Province during November 6, 2014.

This research is a part of a thesis “Search Effectiveness and Efficiency of Facet-Based Online Catalog: A Crossover Study of Novice Users”, in this case, is 12 high school students by using cross-over experimental study as a means of research. A study states that facet-based search is lower in terms of both efficiency and effectiveness than online information search, which is in opposition to the result of a research that is conducted with general groups of users.

In present days, the facet-based search is gaining popularity and are being used in various online libraries. The study of the correctness of facet-based search often states that this kind of search format helps users to access online information resources faster and more accurate. Anyhow, there was never a research conducted on novice users and how they use this kind of search, therefore this research is an extension of knowledge that will be used in developing online search engines that suites the on-going groups of novice users.

The development of this thesis received funding from Chulalongkorn University Masters Students Thesis’ Fund, Dr. M.L. Joi (Ngon-Rath) Nantiwadcharin’s Fund, and Department of Research Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.
