Undergraduate Students’ Use of Social Media for Course-Related Learning at Chulalongkorn University

Chanikarn  Hemprakan,  Oranuch  Sawetrattanasatian

Currently, undergraduate students extensively use social media, both for their daily lives and academic information seeking. Since social media is also advantageous to learning, it is increasingly popular among the young generation for the purpose of education. However, despite their familiarity with this new technology, undergraduate students still face some problems in using social media. Thus, this study was aimed to investigate undergraduate students’ use of social media for learning, specifically course-related learning, at Chulalongkorn University, in terms of types of social media and information used, reasons of use, methods of use, information evaluation, forms of information utilization, and problems in using it. The study should contribute to the faculty members’ implementation of social media for learning and librarians’ information services, including information literacy instruction. While the nature of this research is a case study, it may also interesting to other universities due to its useful suggestions, for both faculty members and librarians, on social media use for learning, particularly the course-related one.
