Abstract |
The purpose of this thesis is to contrast the expression of past time in English and Thai which is realized linguistically in the form of the Past Tenses. The thesis attempts to account for the similarities and differences of both languages using the Transformational Grammar as a model of linguistic analysis, and S. Pit Corder's as a model of contrastive analysis. From the analysis, the following conclusions may be drawn: 1.The Past Tenses of English and Thai indicate similarities and differences semantically and syntactically. 2.At the surface structure level, however, the English past time is realized syntactically and morphologically; whereas in Thai, the past time is manifested linguistically only at the syntactic level. |

จุดมุ่งหมายของวิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ คือการศึกษาเปรียบต่างของการใช้ภาษาที่แสดงเวลาในอดีตในภาษาอังกฤษและภาษาไทย ซึ่งแสดงทางภาษาในรูปของอดีตกาล วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ต้องการแสดงลักษณะที่เหมือนและแตกต่างกันของทั้งสองภาษา โดยใช้ทฤษฎีไวยากรณ์ปริวรรตเป็นหลักในการวิเคราะห์และใช้รูปแบบการเปรียบต่างของ เอส.พิท คอร์เดอร์ จากผลของการวิเคราะห์อาจสรุปได้ว่า 1. อดีตกาลในภาษาอังกฤษและภาษาไทยมีความเหมือนและความแตกต่างกันในด้านความหมายและในทางวากยสัมพันธ์ 2. ในระดับโครงสร้างผิว เวลาในอดีตในภาษาอังกฤษแสดงโดยวิธีการทางวากยสัมพันธ์และวิธีการทางระบบหน่วยคำ ส่วนในภาษาไทยนั้นจะแสดงได้โดยวิธีการทางวากยสัมพันธ์อย่างเดียวเท่านั้น |
