Abstract

This is a study of the sentence structures and the intonation patterns of the Yes-No Question Speech act in French. The data are from two motion pictures: "Pleure pas la bouche pleine" in 1973 and "Dossier 51" in 1979. Three semantic criteria:(1) the presupposed belief of the speakers (2) given or new information and (3) the atitude of the speakers that the proposition is true or not true are used to analoyze all the question forms in the corpus. The relationship between the sentence structures, the intonation patterns in french Y-N Questions and the semantic criteria aforementioned are studied. The result of the analyese can be summed up as follows. 1. The most common type of Y-N Question found in conversational French is the proposition with rising intonation (p+?+In(R)). The poropostion is marked with a question marker in the written form. 2. Y-N Questions which do not show the speakers' attitude towards the belief of the proposition are represented mostly by propositions with question markers and propositions with the word order inversion and question markers. The speakers use these types of Y-N Question to express their real need for answers. Thers two types of Y-N Question are also used to express the speakers' politeness. They help to show that the speakers want to give opportunities to the hearer to freely show his opinion. Rising intioation appears mostly in both question forms. 3. Y-N Question with Question Parts ((QP)+P+(QP)+(C)) is used mostly to express the speakers' presupposed belief. They reveal the speakers' conflict towards the proposition. The convolution intonation is used mostly with this question form. 4. The propositions in Y-N Questions with proposition and word order inversion followed by question markers (P+WI+?) are all new information. It can be concluded that this question form is a Real Question
 

?ิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ มีจุดมุ่งหมายที่จะศึกษาลักษณะโครงสร้าง และทำนองเสียงของรูปคำถามแบบตอบรับ-ปฏิเสธที่มีวัจนกรรมเป็นการถามในภาษาฝรั่งเศส จากบทสนทนาในภาพยนตร์ โดยศึกษาเรื่องเกณฑ์ทางความหมายอันได้แก่ การมีความเชื่อดั้งเดิม-การไม่มีความเชื่อดั้งเดิม ความเก่า-ความใหม่ การเชื่อว่าความนำเสนอเป็นเช่นนั้น-การเชื่อว่าความนำเสนอมิได้เป็นเช่นนั้น และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเกณฑ์ทางความหมายดังกล่าวกับรูปคำถาม และทำนองเสียงของคำถามแบบตอบรับ-ปฏิเสธในภาษาฝรั่งเศส

ผลของการศึกษาสรุปได้ว่า วัจนกรรมการถามแบบตอบรับ-ปฏิเสธในภาษาฝรั่งเศสมีความหลากหลายในแง่โครงสร้างของประโยคและทำนองเสียงและการใช้รูปคำถามที่แตกต่างกันขึ้นอยู่กับเกณฑ์ทางความหมายที่แตกต่างกัน ดังนี้

1.ในภาษาฝรั่งเศสสนทนารูปคำถามส่วนใหญ่เป็นรูปประโยคบอกเล่า ซึ่งในการพูดใช้ทำนองเสียง

ขึ้น [ P+?+In(R) ] และในภาษาเขียนจะใส่เครื่องหมายแสดงการถาม (?) ท้ายประโยค

2.รูปคำถามที่เป็นรูปประโยคบอกเล่า ลงท้ายด้วยเครื่องหมายแสดงการถาม [ P+? ] และรูปคำถามที่ใช้กฎการสลับที่คำลงท้ายด้วยเครื่องหมายแสดงการถาม [ P+WI+? ] ส่วนใหญ่ใช้เแสดงความหมายไปในทำนองเดียวกัน คือผู้ถามไม่มีความเชื่อดั้งเดิมต่อความนำเสนอ ผู้ถามใช้รูปคำถามนี้เพื่อต้องการคำตอบรับหรือตอบปฏิเสธ

ในกรณีที่ผู้ถามมีความเชื่อดั้งเดิมต่อความนำเสนอ ผู้ถามจะใช้รูปคำถามนี้เพื่อเปิดโอกาสให้ผู้ฟังแสดงความคิดเห็นได้เต็มที่

ในรูปคำถามทั้ง 2 รูปนี้ มีรูปทำนองเสียงขึ้นมากที่สุด คือ [ P+?+In(R) ] และ [ P+WI+?+In(R) ]

3.รูปคำถามที่มีส่วนแสดงการถามวางไว้ต้นประโยคหรือท้ายประโยค ลงท้ายด้วยเครื่องหมายแสดงการถาม [ (QP)+P+(QP)+? ] ใช้แสดงความหมายที่ว่าผู้ถามมีความเชื่อดั้งเดิมต่อความนำเสนอ ใช้แสดงความขัดแย้งของผู้ถาม ในรูปคำถามนี้มีรูปทำนองเสียงผสมมากที่สุด [ (QP)+P+(QP)+?+In(c) ]

4.รูปคำถามที่ใช้กฎการสลับที่คำ ลงท้ายด้วยเครื่องหมายแสดงการถาม [ P+WI+? ] ใช้ในการถามที่ความนำเสนอเป็นความใหม่ทั้งหมด อาจจัดได้ว่ารูป [ P+WI+? ] เป็นคำถามแท้ได้
