About the Speaker<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teun A. van Dijk is the co-founder of Critical Discourse Analysis. Director of the Centre of Discourse Studies, Teun A. van Dijk was professor of discourse studies at the University of Amsterdam until 2004, and is at present professor at Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona. After earlier work on generative poetics, text grammar, and the psychology of text processing, his work since 1980 takes a more critical perspective and deals with discursive racism, news in the press, ideology, knowledge and context.He is the author of several books in most of these areas, and he edited \u2018The Handbook of Discourse Analysis\u2019 (4 vols, 1985) the introductory book \u2018Discourse Studies\u2019 (2nd edition, 2011) as well as the reader \u2018The Study of Discourse\u2019 (5 vols., 2007). He founded 6 international journals, \u2018Poetics\u2019, \u2018Text\u2019 (now \u2018Text & Talk\u2019), \u2018Discourse & Society\u2019, \u2018Discourse Studies\u2019, \u2018Discourse & Communication\u2019 and the internet journal in Spanish \u2018Discurso & Sociedad\u2019 (www.dissoc.org<\/a>). He still serves as editor for \u2018Discourse & Society\u2019, \u2018Discourse Studies\u2019, and \u2018Discourse & Communication\u2019. About the Moderator<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verita Sriratana is Associate Professor of Literary Studies at the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. She is currently Visiting Research Fellow in Human Rights at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI), Lund University, Sweden, where she researches on the topic of offline and online gender-based violence against female activists in Thailand\u2019s current pro-democracy movement as well as the movement’s feminist and intersectional retaliation against patriarchal epistemic violence. Her publications span modernist literature, gender studies, necropolitics, postcolonialism and Central & Eastern European Studies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
