{"id":6535,"date":"2025-11-04T16:01:47","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T09:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.arts.chula.ac.th\/balac\/?p=6535"},"modified":"2025-11-04T16:01:49","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T09:01:49","slug":"position-vacant-lecturer-in-cultural-studies-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arts.chula.ac.th\/balac\/index.php\/2025\/11\/04\/position-vacant-lecturer-in-cultural-studies-2\/","title":{"rendered":"POSITION VACANT: LECTURER IN CULTURAL STUDIES"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Cultural Studies (some specialization in areas of Global Studies is preferred) to teach in its Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture (BALAC) International Program.&nbsp;Applicants must not be a Thai citizen (this is due to funding restrictions) and have a completed PhD (or be nearing completion) in a related field and be ready to start on <strong>1 August 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kindly note that your presence in Thailand will be required from 15 to 31 July 2026 for the visa and work permit processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Position Title: <\/strong>Lecturer in Cultural Studies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Department: <\/strong>Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture (BALAC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Position Status: <\/strong>Full-time, rolling renewable annual foreign lecturer contract (\u201cextraordinary lecturer\u201d or \u201c\u0e2d\u0e32\u0e08\u0e32\u0e23\u0e22\u0e4c\u0e27\u0e34\u0e2a\u0e32\u0e21\u0e31\u0e0d\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Commencement:<\/strong> 1 August 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Remuneration:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 August 2026 onwards: 52,000 THB per month base pay + 8,000 THB housing allowance (For candidates holding a PhD at contract start date).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: If you are applying from outside of Thailand, please be aware that there are no relocation expenses provided if you are selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Benefits:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>3 days personal leave, 6 days&#8217; vacation leave*, 30 days sick leave, 98 days maternity leave or 15 days paternity leave.\n<ul>\n<li>*You will be eligible for vacation days one year after the start of your first official contract (from 1 January 2027 onwards).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Partial academic conference expenses (if you are presenting).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Miscellaneous other benefits such as free access to the university\u2019s sports center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00a0Application Deadline: <\/strong>close of business (16:00 GMT+7) on 31 December 2025.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Responsibilities are as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Primary Responsibilities<\/strong><br><br>Primary Teaching Responsibilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Within one academic year, teach six BA-level elective courses on topics related to Global Cultures <strong>(six total per year\/ three per semester)<\/strong>.<ul><li>Some of these courses are:<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>2200100 Introduction to Cultural Studies I; 2200101 Introduction to Cultural Studies II; 2200309 Introduction to Anthropology; 2200318 Consumer Culture; 2200340 Technology and Culture; 2200321 Modern Frontiers; 2200430 China and the World; 2200431 International Development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;All courses will be 100% on-site unless otherwise directed by Faculty and University leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Primary Pastoral Care and Administrative Responsibilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Act as an academic advisor for an assigned group of students in the Program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support the academic work of the Program, Faculty, and University (e.g. exam supervision, curriculum reviews, preparation for standards audits, office hours for students, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Undertake administrative tasks related to your role in the BALAC program (joining the monthly BALAC committee meetings, participating in the selection process of new students, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Secondary Responsibilities (as the opportunity arises, and as time and your primary responsibilities permit)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondary Teaching Responsibilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Act as an advisor to individual students in self-directed learning courses such as \u201cIndependent Study\u201d, \u201cSenior Project\u201d, and \u201cInternship\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondary Pastoral Care and Administrative Responsibilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Provide academic advice to students (who are not taking your classes or are not your academic advisees) and colleagues within the Program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work with the Program and foreign universities to promote good relations and increase academic and exchange opportunities for students and academic colleagues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Undertake other reasonable tasks as assigned by the BALAC Program Director.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Does NOT hold Thai citizenship (this is due to funding restrictions).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Holds or will soon hold a PhD in Cultural Studies, Global Studies, International Studies, or a related discipline (e.g. a PhD in Anthropology or Sociology with a relevant thesis topic).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent command of written and spoken English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Expected competencies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Commitment to student-centered teaching at BA level, including the supervision of self-directed learning by students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with working in a multi-cultural environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strong English language skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reasonable IT competencies, particularly with software suites commonly used in universities (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google GSuite, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Desirable Competencies and Characteristics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Have a proven record of peer-reviewed research publications with a minimum of 2 publications in SCOPUS-indexed journal(s).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have university-level teaching experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have experience in university administration and curriculum development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Selection methods<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants who pass the initial document screening will be invited for an interview.
