With the lens of Hannah Arendt\u2019s concept of \u201cThinking\/Willing\u201d and \u201cBanality of Evil\u201d on slice of prisoners\u2019 life as illustrated in All They Could Do to Us by Prontip Munkhong and observations from the current spikes of political lawsuits, they shed light on how the system has been in decline from the lack of \u201cthinking faculty\u201d and in the state of \u201cthoughtlessness.\u201d To illustrate, this essay will use Hannah Arendt\u2019s concept to elaborate on how law practitioners&#8211;police officers, lawyers, prosecutors, judges\u2014are incapable of thinking beyond what the law has written and superior orders, thereby not realizing repercussions from their decision. Then it will reveal how the system drives \u201cthe prisoners\u201d into the \u201cstateless people\u201d by depriving them of the basic rights to live both in prison and their life afterwards. Nevertheless, no studies emphasize<br \/>the diachronic variation of this phoneme. This research thus asks: how did the phonological distribution change<br \/>diachronically? As well as what were the acoustic properties of the EP tap? This study investigated the diachronic<br \/>variation of the EP rhotic through analyzing its acoustic characteristics from speech recordings of two different<br \/>periods, 1952 and 1980. With specific objectives, three acoustic properties are concerned: 1) Intensity ratio, for<br \/>the identification of the degree of constriction change 2) NHR (Noise-to-Harmonic Ratio), for the identification<br \/>of the fricative quality of each variant 3) Duration of obstruction, for testing the prolongability of a consonant.<br \/>This study revealed four phonetic realizations: 1) Tap 2) Fricativized tap 3) Fricative 4) Approximant. The finding<br \/>suggests that the phonological distribution and the frequency of each variant did not change prominently. Instead,<br \/>the acoustic characteristics showed a gradual change during these 30 years. The major trend of change for the four<br \/>variants of EP rhotic during 1950s-1980s is revealed to be a shift towards the fricative with slightly different<br \/>acoustic characteristic from the one in 1950s which can be considered as a compromising variant between fricative<br \/>and approximant. Therefore, every city in the world is developed upon differences in social class, as clearly shown in urban planning, including Bangkok. This paper explains, in terms of the urban expansion and the urban planning through historical and urban-geographical approaches, the relationship of how urban-social-class structure influences Bangkok urban development to be one of the most chaotic city in urban planning and creates many problems around. However, social class in Thai society seems to be ambiguously divided. This paper will divide social class into three main groups, based on their power in socio-economic dominances, job occupations and educations: the upper class, the middle class and the lower class. Based on evidence from historical contents, household incomes, land-used statistics, street names and others that relate, it is found that social class plays a dominant role in urban planning and development. This paper will provide a chronology of Bangkok evolution, starting from the early Bangkok period, the modernisation period, the industrialisation period and the post-industrialisation period, through the theory of \u201cThird World City\u201d characteristics, land speculation by the upper class, and the industrialisation process. They all together caused chaotic in urban planning such as the \u201cBangkok Super Block\u201d problem and the \u201cUrban Sprawl\u201d phenomenon. In fact, only the upper class primarily created policies in urban development for their needs, but later they changed to serve for the middle class due to their great consuming power, leaving out the lower group at the societal margin. However, this paper only explains about Bangkok. In exploration of this matter among contour tones in Thai, namely Rising and Falling tones, we have introduced musical variables and methods, as, despite the close relationship between music and language in several aspects, there has been little research in phonetics and phonology which has incorporated music as a means to help exhibit innate phonological knowledge through its constraining and accentuating power upon speech.<\/p><p>We composed two versions, i.e. ballad and pop-rock, of a song excerpt, controlling for musical pitch, rate\/tempo, tone-melody parallel, note duration\/syllabic stress, carrier syllable structure, tonal context and syllable environment, and overall naturalness in terms of a musical piece. Each test word and its preceding syllable was designed to bear pitch, with voiced onset and non-obstruent voiced coda segments, respectively, as well as long vowels as nuclei. The tonal environment, comprising phonologically level tones, namely Mid, Low, and High tones with respective offsets, and stimuli for contour tones have been integrated as a part of the lyrics provided to three native Thai-speaking female singers.<\/p><p>Our collected voice data indicate that tonal alignment is not affected by speech rate, supporting\u00a0<span style=\"background-color: var( --e-global-color-bc4458d ); color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Roboto; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); font-size: 1rem;\">the notion of segmental anchoring, where contour tones are decomposable, with syllable as the tone\u00ad bearing unit. No inter-speaker variations within the same set of environment\u00a0 and stimuli were found, in part due to the rigidity of musical elements governing each phonetic realization; however, variations between different tonal contexts, even among identical stimuli, were present. Upon investigation, it was concluded that such phenomenon arises from the interaction between tonal offset-onset coarticulation and musical pitch, accounting for tonal and melodic distance.
