Meeting with a representative from University of Leeds
Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Associate Professor Suradech Chotiudompant welcomed Professor Martin Seegor, Director of Thai studies from the University of Leeds for a meeting with representatives from of the Departments of English and History. The meeting was in relation to last year\u2019s meeting with Professor Andrew Thorpe and Professor Manuel Barcia, Dean and Pro-Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures, respectively, on September 7, 2022. Topics included general collaborations such as students\/staff exchange programs, co-organizing seminars and conferences, online lectures, and double degree programs at the graduate level with several departments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, there were discussions about the ongoing collaborative project on Global Humanities and Medical Humanities. The collaboration was initiated by Global Humanities Institute (GHI) at Leeds, which is sponsored by the CHCI (Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes) under the theme of \u201cClimate Justice\u201d. Another project with Leeds is the establishment of Virtual Institute for Global Health and the Arts and the Humanities. The Departments at the Faculty of Arts that will be on board are the Departments of English, Library Science, History, Philosophy, Geography, and Linguistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the projects at Leeds, the Faculty of Arts\u2019 Department of History invited Leeds to join their ongoing project surrounding the topic of decolonization in the Indo-Pacific region. Further collaborations are also in the picture for Thai studies and Buddhist studies as there are 40 students a year enrolled in classes in Thai studies and East Asian Studies at Leeds.
The collaborations are promising and the possibilities seem endless. As the Director of Thai Studies in Leeds, Professor Martin Seeger will be responsible for collaborations in Thailand. Both Chula\u2019s Faculty of Arts and Leeds Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Culture are looking forward to many fruitful collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
