{"id":21451,"date":"2025-09-26T09:27:38","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T02:27:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.arts.chula.ac.th\/th\/?p=21451"},"modified":"2025-09-26T09:27:38","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T02:27:38","slug":"reading-the-memory-police-through-socio-political-cultural-and-historical-contexts-for-the-literature-in-english-translation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arts.chula.ac.th\/th\/arts-activities\/2025\/09\/26\/21451\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cReading The Memory Police through Socio-Political, Cultural, and Historical Contexts\u201d for the \u201cLiterature in English Translation\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Tuesday 16 September 2025, Keiko Sei, a distinguished writer, translator, film producer, and curator, delivered a public lecture entitled \u201cReading The Memory Police through Socio-Political, Cultural, and Historical Contexts\u201d for the \u201cLiterature in English Translation\u201d class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This academic event was organised by the Department of English as part of the \u201cLiterature in English Translation\u201d course, convened by Associate Professor Verita Sriratana, PhD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Sei offered not only a comparative reading of Y\u014dko Ogawa\u2019s original text and its English translation, but also an overview of the socio-cultural and political contexts of contemporary Japan pertinent to the novel.
