Students are required to complete their studies in no fewer than 2 semesters and no more than 4 semesters, counting from the first semester of enrollment in the program.

Translation processes, translated texts, and various phenomena in translation in linguistic, communicative, cognitive and socio-cultural perspectives; translator training; principles of and approaches to translation.

2241622 Discourse Analysis in Translation                                                              3(3-0-9)

Basic concepts, theories, and methods in Discourse Analysis; its application in translation; practice in analyzing various text types and various discourses from both of their original forms and their translations.

2241624  Thai Language Skills for Translators                                                        3(3-0-9)

Practicum in the use of words, sentences, registers, and styles in Thai; lexical choices; lexical variation, new coinage; analysis and solutions to the problems in the use of the Thai language in translation work.

2241629  Translation Technology                                                                             3(2-2-8)

Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools; language corpora construction; translation resource management; post-machine translation editing

2241631  Translation Practicum from a Foreign Language into Thai                 3(2-2-8)

Practice in the analysis and interpretation of source texts of various genres in a selected foreign language; selection of appropriate translation types; processes of translating into Thai, and evaluation of target texts.

Practice in the analysis and interpretation of source texts of various genres in Thai, selection of appropriate translation types; processes of translating texts into a selected language, and evaluation of target texts.

Practice in analyzing audio-visual media materials namely movie commentaries, songs and cartoons; translation processes for subtitling and dubbing; practice in assessing and editing translated texts.

Practice in the analysis, interpretation and translation of various types of business documents; practice in the assessment and editing of translated texts.

2241636  Translation of Legal Documents                                                                      3(2-2-8)

Practice in the analysis, interpretation and translation of various types of legal documents; practice in the assessment and editing of translated texts.

Practice in the analysis, interpretation and translation of various types of classical, modern and contemporary literary works; practice in the assessment and editing of translated texts.

Comparative assessment of target texts in Thai against source texts in a selected foreign language in terms of fidelity of message and intent; evaluation of the language register used in the target texts; evaluation of lexical and syntactic choices; practice in editing target texts in Thai.

Academic System

The program adopts a credit-based system under a bi-semester academic calendar, comprising two regular semesters: the first semester and the second semester.

 

Assessment and Graduation Requirements

Course assessment is conducted using the following letter grading system: A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, and F.

 

Qualifications of Applicants

  1.  Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and possess a high level of proficiency in both Thai and a foreign language.
  2. Additional qualifications shall be in accordance with the announcements of the Graduate School, which are issued annually, or as deemed appropriate by the Administrative Committee of the Master of Arts Program in Translation and Interpretation.

 

Application Schedule

The application schedule shall be in accordance with the announcements of the Graduate School, which are issued on an annual basis.

 

Required Application Documents

  1.  Completed application form
  2.  One certified copy of the official transcript of undergraduate studies
  3.  One certified copy of a national identification card or government official ID card
  4.  One certified copy of the household registration
  5.  One recent photograph (1 inch) in digital format
  6.  Certified copies of English language proficiency test scores: CU-TEP, TOEFL, or IELTS

Applicants must submit one of the following English proficiency test scores:
– CU-TEP: minimum score of 80
– TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 79
– IELTS: minimum overall band score of 6.5
