About the Forum
1. Rationale
The explosion of digital technologies and media in this digital age is conspicuously discernible. Every aspect of our lives becomes unequivocally more involved with and manipulated by the digital technology which exerts influences upon entities, individuals, organizations, and societies. A large amount of data, information and knowledge being interconnected in the digital world at any particular level – personal, organizational, or social – affects perceptibly our daily lives which have placed much dependency on digital systems. Nonetheless, many contemporary professionals in the information related fields have made their efforts to acquire and secure new methods for producing, managing and storing digital collections, as well as delivering digital services of information. Investigation into the digital lives includes not only the technological aspects of such academic and practical areas, but also encompasses the social aspects in determining what are actually occurring in the digital lives of entities, people, organizations, and societies.
Discussing digital lives in connection with data, information, and knowledge accordingly remains to be one of the most challenging issues confronting the connected globe. In this respect, Chulalongkorn University proposes to host two well-recognized regional conferences with regard to the study of digital lives, i.e.
- The 19th International Conference on Asia-Pacific Digital Libraries (ICADL); and
- The 8th Asia-Pacific Conference on Library & Information Education and Practice (A-LIEP).
We anticipate that to hosting these two conferences simultaneously would bring about a diverse group of academic and professional members in Asia Pacific region as well as in other parts of the world to assemble to exchange and share their cutting-edge knowledge, expertise, experiences, practices, and research findings in various disciplines relevant to the conference topics.
To administer the events efficiently, the co-location of both conferences will be given a collective topic entitled “The International Forum on Data, Information, and Knowledge for Digital Lives.” More importantly, this international forum is intended to be organized to celebrate the special occasion for commemorating The 100th Anniversary of the Inauguration of Chulalongkorn University in 2017. The Forum aims to provide numerous networking activities, research products and progress reports; and to share and exchange ideas in forms of, but not limited to, seminars, oral/poster presentations, discussion groups, workshops, business meetings, and social activities.
