/iz/ (pronounced “is”) is an online magazine covering profound roles and perplexing issues around information, data, and knowledge in today’s society. Information, data, and knowledge (or even wisdom) are all around us in every single bit detail of life, from personal life to families and friends, works, hobbies, politics, entertainment, business, and education. We may not be able to touch or feel it, nor had we realized that we are using or relied on it. Nonetheless, we are talking or hearing about it every single day.
Some of these issues are way beyond our controls as lay people. Some can pose serious threats to us and our society. On the other hand, some can be handle within one mouse-click or do nothing. Understanding it, at least, can let us prepare ourselves to confront and overcome these issues with ease.
Developed and curated by the Department of Library Science, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, this publication aims to find ways to make sense of a part of this complicated and dynamic world using lens of scholars, researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts in information studies, information science, librarianship, and other related disciplines. We hope this is a good beginning to shed some light at the end of tunnel to all of us.

/อีส/ เป็นนิตยสารออนไลน์ที่ครอบคลุมเนื้อหาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับบทบาทและประเด็นต่าง ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับสารสนเทศ ข้อมูล และความรู้ในโลกยุคปัจจุบัน สิ่งที่เราเรียกว่า สารสนเทศ ข้อมูล และความรู้ (หรือแม้แต่กระทั่งภูมิปัญญา) เป็นสิ่งที่อยู่รอบตัวเราในทุกย่างก้าวของชีวิต ไม่ว่าจะเป็นบทบาทในชีวิตส่วนตัว ครอบครัว เพื่อนฝูง การทำงาน งานอดิเรก การเมือง บันเทิง ธุรกิจ และการศึกษา เราอาจจะไม่สามารถสัมผัสหรือรู้สึกถึงสารสนเทศ เราอาจจะไม่รู้เลยว่าเรากำลังใช้งานหรือพึ่งมันอยู่ อย่างไรก็ตามเราก็พูดถึงหรือได้ยินได้ฟังเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับสารสนเทศ ข้อมูล และความรู้อยู่ทุกวัน
ประเด็นปัญหาต่าง ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องสารสนเทศ ข้อมูล และความรู้นั้นอาจจะเกิดความควบคุมของเราในฐานะปุถุชนธรรมดา ปัญหาบางอย่างอาจเป็นภัยร้ายที่น่ากลัวทั้งต่อตัวเราและสังคมของเรา ในทางตรงกันข้าม บางปัญหาอาจแก้ไขได้ด้วยเพียงกดเม้าส์เพียงครั้งเดียวหรือไม่ต้องทำอะไรเลย การทำเข้าใจปัญหาเหล่านี้ อย่างน้อยก็อาจทำให้เราเผชิญและก้าวผ่านมันไปอย่างง่ายดาย
/อีส/ จัดทำโดยภาควิชาบรรณารักษศาสตร์ คณะอักษรศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เพื่อช่วยกันทำความเข้าใจบางส่วนของโลกที่เต็มไปด้วยความซับซ้อนและมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่สูงเช่นนี้ โดยใช้มุมมองของนักวิชาการ นักวิจัย นักปฏิบัติ และผู้ที่สนใจทางด้านสารสนเทศศึกษา สารสนเทศศึกษา บรรณารักษศาสตร์ และสาขาวิชาอื่นที่เกี่ยวข้อง เราหวังว่านี่จะเป็นการเริ่มต้นในการส่องแสงสว่างไปยังปลายทางของอุโมงค์สำหรับพวกเราทุกคน
