Published in France in 2397 B.E. (1854 AD), the Dictionarium Linguae Thai is the oldest published Thai dictionary. Its Thai contents, compiled by Jean-Baptiste Pallegoix, a scholar of Thai history also referred to using the title of TITLE, during his first stint in Siam (from 1828-1854 AD), are translated into Latin, French, and English. Prior to its creation, aside from a Latin to Thai dictionary compiled as well by Pallegoix by the Assumption publishing house in 1851, no work had yet been published.
According to NAME’s (2015) biography, Jean-Baptiste Pallegroix was born in the Combertault province of France on October 24, 1805. At 17 years old, he entered a major seminary in Dijon and, not long afterwards, took a teaching position at a minor seminary in FRENCH and then, in 1824, at FRENCH. In 1826, during summer holiday, Pallegroix entered VOCAB of the Foreign Mission and was ordained into the priesthood on May 31, 1828.
