Chulalongkorn University is surrounded by a number of downtown neighborhoods, each of which serves as a hub of Bangkok’s social life in its own right.

Right Across the Border
· Siam Square
Considered by some to be the true centre of modern Bangkok, Siam Square is home to an outdoor shopping area with boutiques lining up its main street and the “sois”. If you need some shades, check out the mega shopping malls in the neighborhood, such as Siam Square One, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, and MBK.

· Suan Luang & Banthat Thong
This shophouse residential neighborhood has been serving as an affordable culinary hub for students at Chulalongkorn for decades. As the demand keeps growing, more and more restaurants are taking over the entire superblock that extends from the western border of the University to Banthat Thong Road.

· Chamchuri Square
Situated above MRT Samyan, Chamchuri Square is an office and residential complex that boasts a retail space in its foyer. If you are arriving for the afternoon sessions from the MRT, a quick lunch at one of Chamchuri Square’s restaurants could be an option.

· Samyan Mitrtown
Samyan Mitrtown is a retail center that serves the neighborhoods on the western side of Chulalongkorn University. Visit the 4th Floor for a wallet-friendly food center.

A short ride away

· Silom
Silom is Bangkok’s business center by day and its entertainment venue by night. If you are looking for a place to accommodate your plan for an extended post-conference drinks and nibbles, consider dining at one of the restaurants in Silom and/or a pub-crawl from the beginning of the street all the way to the adjacent neighborhood of Sathon.

· Ratchaprasong and Chitlom
These neighborhoods are home to upmarket deparment stores, hotels, and private residences. For a splurge, consider visiting some of the hotel bars on Ratchadamri Road (The Grand Hyatt, Waldorf-Astoria, The Anantara), Lang Suan Road (Hotel Muse, The Kempinski), and Wireless Road (Park Hyatt, The Okura, The Rosewood, The Athenée).

· Sukhumvit
Another major commercial area of Bangkok, Sukhumvit is common name for many small neighborhoods that border this avenue east of Chitlom. Usually referred to by its “Soi’s number”, each of the Sukhumvit neighborhood is lively, diverse, and multi-cultural in its own right.
