The Department of Geography has collaborated with leading universities in the UK under the programme of the British Council, Thai-UK World-Class University Consortium. With the support of British Council, the collaboration has been made between the department of geography with University of Sussex (Dr.John Barlow and Dr.Yi Wang), The London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE) (Professor Hyun Bang Shin), and University of Bristol (Professor Jonathan Rigg).

Research collaboration and workshop are the main objectives of our collaboration. Therefore, the department is having a co-research project with the UK Universities. The project name is Modelling Flood Risk and Community Resilience in Rayong Province, Thailand. Moreover, a workshop for students and staffs of the department was organized.

0n 18th – 27th May 2022, Dr. John Barlow and Dr. Yi Wang from University of Sussex, Prof. Hyun Bang Shin from LSE, and Prof. Jonathan Rigg from University of Bristol visited Thailand in order to organize a workshop and to do the co – research project fieldwork.

The workshop was arranged during 21st – 22nd May 2022 at 9.30am – 16.00pm at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. The workshop was divided into four themes, Applied Geomorphology and site evaluation by Dr. John Barlow, Global Climate model for future climate projection by Dr. Yi Wang, Qualitative Research Design by Prof. Hyun Bang Shin, and Thematic framework for interviews analysis by Prof. Jonathan Rigg. The two – day workshop had approximately 60 attendees. Most of the attendees were the department of geography staffs and students.

From 23rd – 25th May 2022, both Department of Geography team and the U.K. team went to the Ranyong Province to do fieldwork. Our three day fieldwork programme was visiting government agencies involved in flood management, surveying the study area, and interviewing members of the communities located in our study area. This fieldwork is a part of our co – research project, Modelling Flood Risk and Community Resilience in Rayong Province, Thailand. The outcome of this co – research project is to publish research articles in high-ranking Scopus journal.
