MA in Foreign Languages (English)
Our MA in English has now been reinvented as part of the Faculty of Arts’ new MA program: MA in Foreign Languages, which includes English, German, Japanese and Chinese. The English Department offers this rigorous MA in Foreign Languages (English) with the objective of developing graduates with an in-depth knowledge of English linguistics and English literature. The new MA program fosters a dynamic academic and research environment where students work closely with their instructors in small classroom settings to enhance full development of their potential. It provides theoretical, practical as well as interdisciplinary approaches to English linguistics and literature in the 21st century. Since our courses are conducted in English, both Thai nationals and international students are welcome.
The language track is now more flexible with fewer required courses, allowing the students to enjoy plenty of opportunities to pursue their interests both theoretically and practically. A range of related and different frameworks are discussed to equip them with unique ways of exploring English. Classroom activities also offer hands-on experience in, for example, using corpora in language teaching and translating from and into Thai with insights from various approaches to meaning.
The literature track blends traditional fields with interdisciplinary perspectives which highlight the relevance of literary studies to society. Benefiting from the faculty members’ areas of research interest, it not only offers period and topic-based courses but also introduces new approaches to literature which are presented in the course, “Selected Topics in Literature” (for example, Gothic Fiction, Transnational Modernism, or Literature and the Posthuman).
Our department has long produced graduates who make significant contributions as professors in universities all over Thailand. Our graduates also work in various fields in both the public and private sectors, such as communications, creative arts, the film industry, and international relations.
