About the talk

The change in publishing business especially the closing of publishing companies and the main 0ngoing publishing businesses, raising questions about the future of publishing business. The consequence of this alteration is not limited to publishing and publisher alone, but many people are still affected such as writer, translator, editor, illustrator, proofreader, and general audience.

In the same time, the drastic growth of the creative online content in both creator and reader is one of the tendencies that are often looked upon as a tendency that affects the change in the publishing business. Presently, creating online content have various business models, which are different from general business models, for example, opening the public for creators to publish their contents with a filter, permission to publish instead of giving ownership in its content, collecting an operating fee from creators instead of collecting from readers. The change in the format of operating business raised suspicions about the effect in long term and short term licensing, therefore the Copyright Office of Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Ministry of Commerce in cooperation with Department of Library Science, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, arranged a talk under the topic “Paper is dead! The online has come.” as a venue for exchanging opinion between specialists in publishing business, online content business, and specialists in licensing. Especially the effects on the change in publishing business and the drastic growth of the creative online content, in addition, to educate the public more about licensing issues.
