On Monday, May 23, 2016, representatives from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Psychology, together with Chulalongkorn University’s International Affairs were honored to welcome a group of top management personnel from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) who wished to strengthen the relationship between the two universities. The visitors represented UKM’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Economics and Management, and Graduate School of Business. The discussion started with impressive video presentations on the UKM itself and the tightly knit connection between Thailand and Malaysia. After the introduction, the UKM delegates proposed possible partnership and collaboration opportunities with relevant faculties of Chulalongkorn University. The matters concerning the Faculty of Arts include research collaboration and student/staff exchanges especially in fields related to languages and cultures in ASEAN. As Thai language and culture are popular fields of study at the UKM, they would very much like to have a Thai language teaching staff visiting them. They would also be happy to arrange for a Bahasa Malaysia instructor to serve the increasing needs of Thai students.
Established since 1970, UKM has successfully produced intellectuals and scholars who are among Malaysia’s pride. The university comprises 13 faculties, 13 research institutes of excellence and two commercial entities, UKM Holdings Sdn. Bhd. and UKM Technology Sdn. Bhd. The university is becoming a research institute in various fields of study including operating various research centers. This meeting opened an appealing opportunity for the Faculty of Arts to join hands with a renowned university from our neighboring country.
