Thai Linguistic Phenomena in Digital Spaces (ปรากฏการณ์ทางภาษาศาสตร์ภาษาไทยในปริภูมิดิจิทัล)

(Lifelong Learning Course, for non-Thai students)

*Students are required to possess intermediate-level proficiency in the Thai language.

COURSE DURATION :
– 12 – 15 hours per subject
– Class times: Thursday, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. (ICT), On-site at Chulalongkorn University)

PRICE : 4,200 Baht per subject (Register for 4 sessions for attendance only), 5,250 (Register for 5 sessions, attend 4 sessions, and take the exam in the 5th session)

  • 3 different subjects available, 12 – 15 hours per 1 subject (4 – 5 sessions)
  • Each subject consists of 12 hours of on-site classes (4 sessions) and 3 hours of exams (1 session). Students can choose from 2 formats:
    – Register for 4 sessions for attendance only (Training fee 4,200 Baht per subject) and receive a Certificate of Attendance.
    – Register for 5 sessions, attend 4 sessions, and take the exam in the 5th session (Training fee 5,250 Baht per subject). If passed at the B level, receive a Certificate of Attendance (plus).
  • *Upon receiving the Certificate of Attendance (plus) from all 3 subjects, receive a Certificate of Achievement and can transfer as 3 credits for the “Thai linguistic phenomena in digital spaces” course in the Thai as a Foreign Language Master’s Degree program, Faculty of Arts.
  • **Regarding credit transfer, you can study any subject first without any specific order.

Subject 1: Digital Thai Varieties (วิธภาษาไทยดิจิทัล) 

Investigate the intricate nuances of language evolution within the digital realm in Thailand. Students will delve into the variations in sounds, spellings, meanings, and grammar that emerge in online spaces. The course examines how digital communication platforms give rise to new linguistic expressions, reflecting the dynamic interplay between technology and language. Through case studies and hands-on analysis, students will gain insights into the evolving nature of Thai language in the digital age, understanding the impact of online interactions on linguistic diversity and communication styles.

Subject 2: Multimodality in Thai Digital Communication (สื่อหลากรูปแบบในการสื่อสารดิจิทัลภาษาไทย)

Embark on a captivating exploration of Digital Multimodality in Thai Communication. Decode the intricate relationships between symbols, language, and images, unraveling the significance of emoji, memes, and emoticons. Explore the subtleties of expressing tone in digital conversations and master the art of textual paralanguage. This course offers a dynamic and hands-on approach to understanding the evolving language of Thai digital communication, empowering participants with the tools to navigate and engage effectively in the diverse online landscape.

Subject 3: Language and Behavior in the Thai Digital Society (ภาษาและพฤติกรรมในสังคมดิจิทัลของไทย)

Explore the behavior and language attitudes of digital citizens, analyze linguistic issues in digital spaces, and uncover the creativity in Thai digital communication. Students will understand how language intricacies contribute to virality and occasional misunderstandings in the dynamic Thai digital society. Additionally, the course explores the impact of different age groups entering digital spaces, shaping diverse perspectives online.
