On August 5, 2020, the Faculty of Arts officially opens its International Arts Talk Series with an inaugural lecture on What Commercial Messages Reveal about American Culture. The lecture is delivered by Professor Seongha Rhee of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and a Visiting Professor at Mahidol University, via Zoom. The program is officially opened by Assistant Professor Nirada Chitrakara, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Internationalization and Organizational Enhancement, where she emphasizes the place of linguistic tools in unravelling cultural dimensions. She also adds that the talk may spark research ideas for graduate students. The lecture is participated by graduate students and professors of linguistics and cultural studies who actively engaged in the discussion. Professor Rhee stresses that linguistic structures in commercial messages may reveal the identity of the product and the company which make up culture.
