POSITION VACANT: LECTURER IN CULTURAL STUDIES
The Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Cultural Studies (some specialization in areas of Global Studies is preferred) to teach in its Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture (BALAC) International Program. Kindly note that your presence in Thailand will be required from 15 to 31 December 2025 for the visa and work permit processing.
Position Title: Lecturer in Cultural Studies
Department: Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture (BALAC)
Position Status: Full-time, rolling renewable annual foreign lecturer contract (“extraordinary lecturer” or “อาจารย์วิสามัญ”)
Commencement: 1 January 2026.
Remuneration:
1 January 2026 onwards: 52,000 THB per month base pay + 8,000 THB housing allowance (For candidates holding a PhD at contract start date).

Primary Responsibilities
Primary Teaching Responsibilities
- Within one academic year, teach six BA-level elective courses on topics related to Global Cultures (six total per year/ three per semester).
- Some of these courses are: 200250 Culture and Globalization, 2200431 International Development, 2200251 Postcolonial Cultures, 2200324 Literature and Transnationalism, 2200414 Culture and the Economy in Global Contexts, 2200430 China and the World, 2200432 Asian Science and Technology. All courses will be 100% on-site unless otherwise directed by Faculty and University leadership.
Primary Pastoral Care and Administrative Responsibilities
- Act as an academic advisor for an assigned group of students in the Program.
- Support the academic work of the Program, Faculty, and University (e.g. exam supervision, curriculum reviews, preparation for standards audits, office hours for students, etc.).
- Undertake administrative tasks related to your role in the BALAC program (joining the monthly BALAC committee meetings, participating in the selection process of new students, etc.)
Secondary Responsibilities (as the opportunity arises, and as time and your primary responsibilities permit)
Secondary Teaching Responsibilities
- Act as an advisor to individual students in self-directed learning courses such as “Independent Study”, “Senior Project”, and “Internship”.
Secondary Pastoral Care and Administrative Responsibilities
- Provide academic advice to students (who are not taking your classes or are not your academic advisees) and colleagues within the Program.
- Work with the Program and foreign universities to promote good relations and increase academic and exchange opportunities for students and academic colleagues.
- Undertake other reasonable tasks as assigned by the BALAC Program Director.
Qualifications
- Does NOT hold Thai citizenship (this is due to funding restrictions).
- Holds or will soon hold a PhD in Cultural Studies, Global Studies, International Studies, or a related discipline (e.g. a PhD in Anthropology or Sociology with a relevant thesis topic).
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Expected competencies
- Commitment to student-centered teaching at BA level, including the supervision of self-directed learning by students.
- Experience with working in a multi-cultural environment.
- Strong English language skills.
- Reasonable IT competencies, particularly with software suites commonly used in universities (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google GSuite, etc.).
Desirable Competencies and Characteristics
- Have a proven record of peer-reviewed research publications with a minimum of 2 publications in SCOPUS-indexed journal(s).
- Have university-level teaching experience.
- Have experience in university administration and curriculum development.
Selection methods
Applicants who pass the initial document screening will be invited for an interview. If you are selected, you will be expected to carry out a 20-minute mock lecture at your interview.
