On Tuesday 11 August 2026, Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, had the honour of welcoming Mr Viktor Semenov, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Thailand, who delivered a special lecture entitled “Nuclear Safety: From Chornobyl to Today”. Mr Semenov also took part in the post-screening discussion of the documentary film “Chornobyl 22”, presented as part of “Contemporary World Literature in English” course.
Mr Semenov was welcomed by Associate Professor Pasuree Luesakul, PhD, Associate Dean for International Affairs, and Associate Professor Nida Tiranasawasdi, PhD, Head of the Department of English, who attended the entire session, following the lecture, screening and ensuing discussion with keen interest.
Mr Semenov was accompanied by Mr Bohdan Ivashchenko, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Ukraine. Following the screening, both diplomats engaged in a lively and illuminating exchange of views with our students, responding to their questions and offering valuable perspectives on nuclear safety, historical memory and the continuing legacy of the Chornobyl disaster.
“Contemporary World Literature in English” course is offered as part of the Department of English curriculum and is convened by Associate Professor Verita Sriratana, PhD. Its first primary text was “Voices from Chernobyl” by the Belarusian Nobel laureate Svetlana Alexievich. In preparation for the event, more than 25 students enrolled on the course had read and critically analysed Alexievich’s polyphonic account of the catastrophe, which provided an important literary and historical foundation for the screening, lecture and discussion.
Marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster, the event brought literary testimony, documentary film and contemporary history into meaningful dialogue, inviting students to reflect upon the enduring human, environmental and political consequences of nuclear catastrophe.

เมื่อวันอังคารที่ 11 สิงหาคม 2569 ภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ คณะอักษรศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ได้รับเกียรติจากนายวิกตอร์ เซเมนอฟ อุปทูตรักษาการแห่งสถานเอกอัครราชทูตยูเครนประจำราชอาณาจักรไทย มาบรรยายพิเศษในหัวข้อ “ความปลอดภัยทางนิวเคลียร์: จากชอร์โนบิลถึงปัจจุบัน” (Nuclear Safety: From Chornobyl to Today) นอกจากนี้ นายเซเมนอฟยังได้ร่วมเสวนาภายหลังการฉายภาพยนตร์สารคดีเรื่อง “Chornobyl 22” ซึ่งจัดขึ้นเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการเรียนการสอนรายวิชา “วรรณกรรมโลกร่วมสมัยที่ประพันธ์/แปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ”
รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ภาสุรี ลือสกุล รองคณบดีฝ่ายวิรัชกิจ และรองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ณิดา ติรณสวัสดิ์ หัวหน้าภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ ร่วมกล่าวต้อนรับนายวิกตอร์ เซเมนอฟในโอกาสดังกล่าว
นายวิกตอร์ เซเมนอฟมาเยือนนิสิตในห้องเรียนพร้อมกับนายบอห์ดาน อิวาชเชนโก เลขานุการโทแห่งสถานเอกอัครราชทูตยูเครนประจำราชอาณาจักรไทย ภายหลังการฉายภาพยนตร์ นักการทูตทั้งสองได้แลกเปลี่ยนข้อคิดเห็นกับนิสิตอย่างเป็นกันเองและเปี่ยมด้วยสาระ ทั้งยังตอบข้อซักถามและถ่ายทอดมุมมองอันทรงคุณค่าเกี่ยวกับความปลอดภัยทางนิวเคลียร์ ความทรงจำทางประวัติศาสตร์ ตลอดจนมรดกของหายนะชอร์โนบิลซึ่งยังคงส่งผลสืบเนื่องมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน
“วรรณกรรมโลกร่วมสมัยที่ประพันธ์/แปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ” เปิดสอนเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของหลักสูตรภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ โดยมีรองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.วริตตา ศรีรัตนา เป็นอาจารย์ผู้รับผิดชอบรายวิชา ตัวบทหลักเรื่องแรกที่นำมาศึกษาในรายวิชานี้คือ “Voices from Chernobyl” ผลงานของสเวียตลานา อเล็กซีเยวิช (Svetlana Alexievich) นักเขียนชาวเบลารุสผู้ได้รับรางวัลโนเบลสาขาวรรณกรรม เพื่อเตรียมพร้อมสำหรับกิจกรรมครั้งนี้ นิสิตที่ลงทะเบียนเรียนกว่า 25 คนได้อ่านและวิเคราะห์เชิงวิพากษ์งานเขียนแบบพหุเสียงของอเล็กซีเยวิช ซึ่งถ่ายทอดหายนะครั้งนั้นผ่านคำให้การและความทรงจำของประจักษ์พยานจำนวนมาก อันเป็นการปูพื้นฐานสำคัญทั้งในเชิงวรรณกรรมและประวัติศาสตร์สำหรับการรับชมภาพยนตร์ การรับฟังบรรยาย และการร่วมเสวนา
ในวาระครบรอบ 40 ปีแห่งภัยพิบัตินิวเคลียร์ชอร์โนบิล กิจกรรมทางวิชาการครั้งนี้ได้เปิดพื้นที่ให้ประจักษ์พยานทางวรรณกรรม ภาพยนตร์สารคดี และประวัติศาสตร์ร่วมสมัยได้สนทนาและส่องสะท้อนซึ่งกันและกัน พร้อมชวนให้นิสิตขบคิดอย่างลุ่มลึกถึงผลกระทบอันยาวนานที่หายนะนิวเคลียร์ทิ้งไว้ต่อมนุษย์ สิ่งแวดล้อม และการเมือง
