Constructing gender and sexuality in Thai

On Friday, June 25, 2021, in celebration of Pride Month, the Faculty of Arts presented Constructing gender and sexuality in Thai: Findings and observations from linguistic perspectives by Asst. Prof. Pavadee Saisuwan from Department of Linguistics and Southeast Asian Research Unit, Faculty of Arts.

As gender difference and sexual diversity have long been observed and studied both by academia and the general public, various resources including language have been associated with gender and sexual identities. In this talk, Dr. Saisuwan shared with us how various elements in the Thai language contribute to the presentation and the construction of gender and sexuality. The session was moderated by Dr. Porranee Singpliam, our lecturer from the BALAC Program.  The session was well attended by over 100 participants from different countries.  To view the recording, please follow this link https://fb.watch/6t3NTNKOnW/
