คณะอักษรศาสตร์ขอแสดงความยินดีในโอกาสที่รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.วริตตา ศรีรัตนา อาจารย์ประจำภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ ได้รับรางวัล Women’s Forum Prize จากสมาคมสลาวิกศึกษาและยุโรปตะวันออกศึกษาแห่งบริเตนใหญ่ จากผลงานวิจัยเรื่อง ‘I Burn (Marx’s) Paris: “Capital” Cities, Alienation and Deconstruction in the Works of Bruno Jasieński’ ที่ได้รับตีพิมพ์ในหนังสือชื่อ Temporalities of Modernism, ed. by Carmen Borbély, Erika Mihálycsa and Petronia Petrar, European Modernism Studies, 9 (Milan: Ledizioni, 2022), pp. 147–71 ด้วยทุนสนับสนุนจากศูนย์เชี่ยวชาญเฉพาะทาง การแปล การล่าม และการสื่อสารข้ามวัฒนธรรม จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย
คณะกรรมการตัดสินผลงานแถลงว่าบทความวิจัยชิ้นนี้ “น่าประทับใจ ขอบเขตวิจัยกว้างขวาง และหัวข้อน่าสนใจ บทความชิ้นนี้อ่านวิเคราะห์นวนิยายเรื่อง I Burn Paris ของ Jasieński อย่างละเอียดในบริบทอันแปรปรวนอลหม่านของยุโรปสมัยระหว่างสงครามและในบริบทขบวนการเคลื่อนไหวทางภูมิปัญญา วัฒนธรรม และการเมืองต่าง ๆ ในช่วงเวลานั้น การสำรวจศึกษานวนิยายเรื่อง I Burn Paris ในฐานะการโต้ตอบขานรับและในฐานะการวิพากษ์วิจารณ์ทัศนคติของมาร์กซ์ต่อคอมมูนปารีสที่มักเป็นไปในทางอุดมคติเกินจริงนั้น ดำเนินไปอย่างชำนาญและชาญฉลาด บทความนี้เน้นย้ำความเป็นจริงอันน่าเศร้าเกี่ยวกับภัยคุกคามต่าง ๆ ที่นักเขียนผู้หนึ่งต้องประสบจากการสนับสนุนระบบสังคมนิยม แต่ในขณะเดียวกันยังกล้าวิพากษ์วิจารณ์ระบบนั้น ๆ”
พิธีมอบรางวัลจะจัดขึ้นในงานประชุมวิชาการสมาคมสลาวิกศึกษาและยุโรปตะวันออกศึกษาแห่งบริเตนใหญ่ประจำปี 2567 ณ มหาวิทยาลัยเคมบริดจ์ ในเดือนเมษายนนี้

Associate Professor Verita Sriratana, PhD, from the Department of English, has been awarded the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies (BASEES) Women’s Forum Prize for her research article entitled ‘I Burn (Marx’s) Paris: “Capital” Cities, Alienation and Deconstruction in the Works of Bruno Jasieński’, which was published in Temporalities of Modernism, ed. by Carmen Borbély, Erika Mihálycsa and Petronia Petrar, European Modernism Studies, 9 (Milan: Ledizioni, 2022), pp. 147–71, with the support of Chulalongkorn University’s Centre of Excellence in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Communication.
The following is a statement issued by the judges as part of the prize’s outcomes and citations:
“This is an impressive article. Sweeping in scope and fascinating in topic, it sets its close analysis of Jasieński’s I Burn Paris in the turbulent context of interwar Europe and the various intellectual, cultural and political movements of that time. The exploration of I Burn Paris as a response to and critique of Marx’s romanticisation of the Paris Commune is deftly handled and the article brings home bleakly the perils of being a writer who supported, but also critiqued, socialism.”
The award will be given at the BASEES Annual Conference 2024, which will take place at the University of Cambridge this coming April.
