Call for papers: “Asian TV Dramas and the Popular Mind in Southeast Asia”

The College of Liberal Arts, De La Salle University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, is hosting a conference-workshop entitled “Asian TV Dramas and the Popular Mind in Southeast Asia” (hybrid event) on May 20-22, 2024 at De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines.

The twenty-first century has witnessed the phenomenal development of Asia as a major producer of popular culture and entertainment, particularly the proliferation of Asian TV drama series that are streamed on various local, regional, and global platforms with multilingual subtitles. With their diversity in genres, from romcom to BL, from martial arts to time travel, from historical to science fiction, these dramas offer an array of delectable fares to stimulate the evolving palate of global audiences.

We invite contributions from varying perspectives, not only limited to the critical praxes of cultural studies, but also the integration of theoretical concepts and frameworks from disciplines such as philosophy, history, political science, sociology, psychology, linguistics, theology and spirituality, business and entrepreneurship, law, and media and fandom studies, among others. Interdisciplinary approaches are welcome and appreciated.
